My Savings Page
I thought this would be a good place to brag about how frugal I can be. I shop a lot at CVS, it’s very convenient, I can just walk up there while the girls are in the dance class and get what I need. I get a lot of the household items, shampoos, toiletries, and such. Now I will be the first to tell you I am somewhat of a brand snob. I really don’t like to buy the cheaper off brand items. Many people buy it, (and that’s perfectly fine, not dissing anyone or anything), but I can tell a difference. So I continue to buy my Pantene, Scott paper towels, and such.
Now, I will tell you that I get most of my items at CVS for nothing or close to nothing. Before doing this, we would have to shop at Food City and Wal-Mart every weekend. We would shop Food City for the normal food groceries and Wal-Mart for all the household stuff. The extra household stuff at Wal-Mart would always be an extra $150.00 or more every single trip. Now we hardly even go to Wal-Mart at all. This makes Bryan and I very happy because we hate Wal-Mart anyway. (I love Target)
Now, on to how I shop at CVS. They have this program where every week they have certain items on sale and they will give u ECB’s (ExtraCare Bucks) back. The ECB’s will print at the bottom of your receipt. ECB’s are just like money, you can use them on your next transaction.
Example:
Colgate toothpaste on sale for $2.99 and you get $2.00 in ECB’s when you purchase. So it’s like you’re getting that toothpaste for .99 cents. The real deal comes in when you use coupons on top of this sale. Usually, I have a $1.00 coupon for this toothpaste. So after using my coupon, I paid out of pocket $1.99 for the toothpaste, but they gave me $2.00 ECB’s for future use. So really they have paid me to buy this tooth paste.
I could go on and on with different scenarios, but I think when I go shopping and get a great deal on my transaction, I will post them then. Plus, this really keeps me motivated to keep doing what I’m doing, because it is saving us a whole lot of money. Saving money is a must when you have a big family, it’s expensive to clothe everyone and the extracurricular activities for the girlies can add up.
